The Wacky Races Winner's Circle

If you grew up in the TV generation, you will remember Hanna-Barbera's cartoon hit The Wacky Races, in which a field of eleven custom cars competed each week for fame, fortune, and fun. Our wacky tote board ranks the racers according to how many 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place trophies they won over the course of the series, awarding 3, 2, and 1 point, respectively. The cars are arranged from lowest score to highest. And we all know who scored lowest, don't we?

Hullabaloo Teaser Art

One of the perks that came with donating to the making of Hullabaloo, the upcoming hand-drawn steampunk TV series, was this delightfully atmospheric artwork. Hope it whets your appetite for the final product.

Scooby-Doo Meets Dick Van Dyke

Actor Dick Van Dyke will be forever young in this episode of The New Scooby-Doo Movies. Here are some glitches to remember:

Daphne and Velma each use the wrong voices.

Scooby's nose temporarily turns brown. In another scene, he loses his spots.

In the tunnel, Shaggy and Scooby try to run away but a gate falls and blocks the way, forcing them to go on and find the villainous strong man. The question is, who dropped the gate? The strong man? He wanted the gang to leave, and besides, he didn't even know they were in the tunnel. Maybe he was closing it to keep them from finding his lair and accidentally locked them in.

Daphne loses her lipstick. Twice. More...

Scooby-Doo Meets Speed Buggy Glitches

Two cartoon icons meet in an episode filled with glitches: Upon reaching Winona, the gang stand in front of a boarded-up hotel. The next morning, the windows are no longer boarded up.

Shaggy and Freddy spend the night in sleeping bags laid out side by side, but when Shag is shown a moment later, Freddy's nowhere in sight.

Daphne gives us her famous Velma impression.

Fred smashes up the front end of the Mystery Machine, but when Tinker is repairing it, he has the engine in the back. Now it is sometimes necessary to remove an engine to work on it, but it would take way too much unnecessary effort to move it into the back of the van.

All through this episode, Mark looks Hispanic, but in the Speed Buggy TV show he looked white. Actually, he was originally intended to be a Latino in the series, but somehow that idea went by the wayside. More...

Glitches From The Rescuers

Mistakes from the animated classic:

Medusa leads her pet gators onto the deck of the boat with leashes, but what are the leashes tied to? No collars are visible around Nero's and Brutus' necks.

Penny's teddy loses his nightcap for an instant.

Bernard and Bianca hire Evinrude to follow the gators in order to find where they're taking Penny, and nearly drown in the process. They should've just asked the swamp critters.

Snoops can just let Medusa escape with the Devil's Eye and then make off with the gems she earlier scattered all over the floor.

Bianca suddenly has an umbrella during the climax. More...

New Jonny Quest Glitches -- House of the Seven Gargoyles

We've added new mistakes for the classic Jonny Quest episode:

Dietrich is very foolish to shoo that bird away when he can plainly hear there are people below.

Erikson talks about "those attacks on me." Have there been more than one?

When the Professor mentions falling ice, Quest reacts as if he didn't know what he was talking about. From the glaciers, Mister Brilliant Scientist. More...

Robin Hood Glitches

Mistakes from the Disney animated feature:

Whenever Prince John loses his robe, he's suddenly wearing long underwear that covers his formerly-bare legs.

How do the rhino guards miss spotting Little John robbing the treasure chest right under their noses?

The door to Maid Marian's castle courtyard is wooden in the far shot but made of iron bars in the close-up.

The feather is on the wrong side of Robin Hood's hat, but only when Skippy wears it.

Robin once carved his and Marian's initials on a tree: "R.H." and "M.M." Are these really their initials? Most versions list Hood as an alias based on the word "hoodlum", although it could possibly be his true name. But surely Marian's first name is not "Maid". More...

The Aristocats Glitches

Bloopers from Disney's animated feature:

The Arictocats fall asleep in the parlor, but Madame later looks for them in her bedroom. With the door closed, how did she expect them to get in?

While Edgar stands on the handlebars of his motorcycle, they spin completely around several times. As they are the means to steering the vehicle, it shouldn't continue to move in a straight line.

Edgar's pants and coattails repair themselves.

Sometimes Duchess' collar has stones in it and sometimes it doesn't. More...

Basil of Baker Street Sightings

We hear of Basil everywhere these days. Though based in Baker Street, Disney's Great Mouse Detective certainly gets around. Below is a report of various sightings of characters from Disney's The Great Mouse Detective in other films, television series, and anywhere else they may have been spotted.

Darkwing Duck, 1991
Many episodes showed a Basil statue in Drake Mallard's home

Walt Disney World Happy Easter Parade, 1991
Basil and Ratigan were the Grand Marshalls

Baker Street Journal
The comic strip column "Art In the Blood" by Scott Bond gave us this Basil in an unknown issue. More...

One by One -- a Lost Disney Animated Short

Whatever happened to this magical short by Disney? It was supposed to be part of the next installment of Fantasia, originally slated for 2006. Well, that didn't happen. Apparently this short, like all hand-drawn animation projects, has been deemed passe by the ticket-buying public. But those who love beautiful animation can, thanks to Brian Sibley and his blog, still enjoy One by One. More...

Jungle Book Glitches

Bloopers, goofs, and mistakes from Disney's animated classic film:

Mowgli pulls a stick out of nowhere when throwing rocks at the waterfall, but it soon vanishes.

A different elephant is next to Sonny when the herd halts for Col. Hathi's inspection.

After Col. Hathi breaks his riding crop, it is shown repaired, then broken again.

Baloo grows a thumb whenever he needs one.

Baloo tells Mowgli to scratch his left shoulder; when the man-cub scratches the right shoulder, Baloo says that's the spot. More...

One Hundred and One Dalmatians Glitches

Not quite 101, but there are some mistakes in the Disney animated classic One Hundred and One Dalmatians:

Pongo starts barking before he closes the little glass door on the clock, running the risk that Roger will see his dog turned the clock ahead.

While in the park, Pongo places Roger's hat on a bench. Even though he drags Roger far from the bench, Roger manages to get his hat for the next scene.

Perdy's leash vanishes as soon as Anita drops it and Pongo's disappears when he falls into the pond.

Anita fishes a purse out of the pond, even though she wasn't carrying one when she fell in. More...

Sleeping Beauty Glitches

Enjoy these mistakes from the Disney animated classic Sleeping Beauty:

Merryweather wants to turn Maleficent into a fat old hop-toad, but can't because her magic "doesn't work that way", but can only be used for good. Yet, she turns the raven Diablo to stone.

After sixteen years, Flora and Fauna still can't cook or sew. Maybe Merryweather did all the housework?

Flora's sleeve changes color when she closes the curtains on Princess Aurora's sleeping form.

When Maleficent rises from her throne, she casts a shadow, but Diablo doesn't. More...

Lady and the Tramp Glitches

Check out these mistakes from the Disney classic Lady and the Tramp:

Several of the dogs in the pound, namely Toughie, Pedro, and Dachsie, can easily fit through the bars and escape.

Jock and Trusty both propose marriage to Lady in order to give her a good home. Did they think that Jim Dear and Darling would just let their dog move in next door?

Tramp's bone is gone, but reappears at the same time as Lady's dish that wasn't there.

While barking at the rat, Lady stands as far as her chain will reach, on the brick walkway. A moment later, her chain doesn't reach quite as far. More...

Scooby-Doo Meets the Harlem Globetrotters

In The New Scooby-Doo Movies, the gang met the world-famous basketball team in three separate episodes, each one filled with fun bloopers and glitches. Here is a sampling:

Shag and Scooby open the door, are frightened by the pirate flag, and run away. When they feel brave enough to go back, the door is closed again, and Shaggy says, "Maybe this is the way out" in such a way to make it sound like he's never seen this door before.

Redbeard is behind Shaggy and Scooby when the two jump out the portholes. Then suddenly, the pirate is on the dock. Later, the group climbs a ladder to escape him, yet he somehow manages to get onto the ship in front of them all. Maybe he is a ghost.

"Duck, everybody," says Meadowlark, but he's the one who doesn't duck. More...

Jonny Quest Glitches: The Monster in the Monastery

We have added new glitches from the classic TV series Jonny Quest:

Of course Jonny's not the murderous sort, but considering he's trapped by a thug who plans to gun him down, he might put those arrows to better use than just spreading oil on the stairs.

While he watches his foe roll down the stairs, Jonny's lips move continually, like he's talking to himself, though we hear no sound. More...

Notes on the Dating of Disney's Tarzan

The Legend of Tarzan animated TV series gives some new insight into the dating of Disney's Tarzan. There are several indicators that may suggest an approximate year, but one reference is absolutely definitive: the sign on Dumont's trading post which states that it was "est. 1912".

Even allowing for the possibility of time passing between the end of the movie and the beginning of the series, this firmly places the characters in the post-Victorian world. How, then, can this date be reconciled with the clues in the animated feature? Jane's dress is clearly Victorian, and she anticipates meeting the Queen herself, who died in 1901. More...
