Disney Magic Kingdom Glitches

A recent update of the Disney Magic Kingdoms game was just filled with glitches in the animations. You've got to see this small sampling

First of all, most of my tabs are missing:

This screenshot shows The Meadow attraction, or what should be The Meadow attraction:

The Cars parade float is stuck at the top of Main Street, while the parade passes right through it, led by an invisible Cars float with only the glowing lights visible. But what that giant purple bar is, I have no idea.

The characters also took a hit. Can you even tell who you're looking at?

Gameloft did fix the game after a few days, but it was fun to look at while it lasted.

Glitches from Disney's Cars

If you are a Cars fan, you might've noticed these bloopers from the first film in the franchise:

Lightning McQueen doesn't know what rearview mirrors are, yet Mack has them.

Mater can drive backwards because he has side mirrors. Lightning does it later on without them.

Lotso In Real Life

The Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear from the Disney/Pixar movie Toy Story 3, or Lotso, as he's more commonly called, ended the film fastened to the grill of a garbage truck. A real-life version was created by an enterprising truck driver, as you can see:

Glitches From Disney's The Incredibles

According to the virtual map inside the Incredicar, Mr. Incredible is approaching the intersection with Adeline St., and then approaching it again several blocks later.

The Incredibles's home town is called Metroville on a train, the stadium, and one newspaper. But it's referred to as Municiberg on the radio, the bank, and another newspaper. Are they twin cities, perhaps?

Frozone reminds Mr. Incredible to get ready for his wedding, although Frozone himself is in the wedding party, too, and needs to change.

Bob and Helen get married in their secret identities, yet most of their guests are in costume.

The Disney Afternoon: The Making of a Television Renaissance

The Disney Afternoon: The Making of a Television Renaissance, a new book by Jake S. Friedman, has been pending for years. Its debut has been delayed over and over again, for reasons unknown to the public, in spite of the fervent desire from fans to get their hands on it, present company included.

Just in case it never sees the light of day (a fate worse than death!), here are some images from Mr. Friedman's own website to amp up the yearning:

Disney Afternoon DVDs -- Where's the Rest of the Story?

Last week, I promised you three Disney TV shows that got cheated on DVD. Although they had DVD releases, the full series was not included. Each of these gems has episodes missing, a disgraceful treatment of both the series and the fans.

Darkwing Duck

The Terror that Flaps in the Night, DW is a feathered super-hero bedeviled by cool villains and his own ego.

Kim Possible

Teenage cheerleader turned crime-fighter Kim Possible travels the world to foil the baddies and still manages to keep her grades up.

Adventures of the Gummi Bears

This show gets the worst treatment of all, with only one volume of cartoons available instead of two. There are a lot more adventures in Gummi Glen for fans to enjoy, if only Disey would cooperate.

We should also mention Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers, which, although recently granted a complete series release, is limited to Blu-Ray only, a cheesy way of dissing fans with only a standard DVD player. But, it's better than nothing.

DVDs That Ought To Be

In the not-too-distant past, it seemed likely that every movie and TV series known to man would eventually make its way to DVD. But now the explosion of streaming services seems to have killed that dream. Here are 10 TV shows that deserve to be on DVD but somehow missed the wave:

Strange Luck

It's hard to classify this show. Chance Harper suffers from extremely good and bad luck, all at the same time. Convoluted coincidences dog his steps in every twisted plot, leading up to a bizarre conclusion.

Disney's House of Mouse

Not the best of Disney's TV forays, but seeing the interaction between characters from different movies, each more obscure than the last, is something I never get tired of. Watching Jiminy's attempt at being Mickey's conscience, Cruella siziing up Beast's hide, and Capt. Hook making eyes at Maleficent make this series well worth owning.

The Eddie Capra Mysteries

Ellery Queen was a better show with better mysteries and better characters, but this is still a fun series. The cast has enough personality to keep you interested, and the stories are fair mysteries with real clues, providing real entertainment for armchair sleuths.

Wildside

At least this show got a VHS video release, but I'd sure like a DVD of these five quirky cowboys and they're slightly offbeat western adventures.

The Harlem Globetrotters

No, not Super Trotters. Not the Harlem Globetrotters Popcorn Machine. The original Harlem Globetrotters cartoon featured the famous team traveling from stadium to stadium helping strangers, catching crooks, and generally having adventures. Oh, and playing basketball, too, possibly against a team of hillbillies, or kangaroos, or even blindfolded. It's a classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon at least as good as the more popular Josie and the Pussycats.

Salvage 1

Once upon a time, a junk man had a dream...a dream that began with a trip to the moon in a homemade rocket, just to salvage the equipment left by the astronauts. After that, the Salvage team went after a robot, a haunted house, an antique car with a secret, and just about anything else you can think of. The only DVDs so far available are of the few two-part episodes, which are, frankly, not the best of the series. The fact that there are five or so eps which were never shown on TV makes this show an even better candidate for DVD release.

Disney's Legend of Tarzan

The Disney animated Tarzan is a fantastic movie; the ape-man's further adventures as revealed in this series are also worth watching, especially for fans of the orignal Edgar Rice Burroughs novels, because many elements from those tales are used on the show.

Sword of Justice

Maybe this series about a playboy wrongfully accused of fraud who becomes a vigilante to avenge his wrongs is typical light '70s fare, but I sure liked it back then, and recently enjoyed an episode I found online. Besides, I think Bert Rosario is cute.

The Charmings

Snow White, Prince Charming, and family are transported to modern times in this fish-out-of-water comedy. The costumes, the Disney references, the miscommunications are all fun and, well, charming.

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command

Another good Disney series that gives us the fictional tv show the Toy Story action figure comes from. Buzz has an interesting team of fellow Space Rangers and a rogues gallery almost as good as Darkwing Duck's. And speaking of DW...

Top 5 Non-Disney Animated Films

I'm a huge Disney fan, so you can bet I say that Disney animation is the best, bar none. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate other animated movies. These are my top 5:

#5 Home

Most of the success of this movie is in the aliens: the Boov. Both their way of looking at the world and their speech patterns are so entertaining, you can't help but smile at pretty much everything they do.

#4 Lord of the Rings

An acquired taste, perhaps, and overshadowed by Peter Jackson's outstanding trilogy. But there will always be a warm place in my heart for the first film of the Tolkein masterpiece. Again, rotoscoping...oy! The character design is awesome in almost every case, though, and the dialogue sticks more closely to the book than Jackson's. Sure, it's a story without an ending, but we Tolkien fans know how it turns out.

#3 Flushed Away

No one could be more surprised than I at how good this movie is. I've seen the Wallace and Gromit movies, and they're good, but I'm no fan of the Aardman character design. And yet, the character of Roddy has a captivating charm that makes you really want to know how his story will turn out. Lots of funny stuff, and the weirdness doesn't cross the line into 'too weird for me' territory.

#2 Megamind

Why? Why do super-villains do it? This movie answers that question with good humor and lots of super-hero tropes, and yet still manages not to dis the genre I love. And Megamind the character has the power to make us root for the villain, even when he's at his most villainous.

#1 Klaus

This Netflix-Original tale of a Kuzco-esque postman in a town where the residents are too busy feuding to mail a letter doesn't sound like a Christmas movie, but just stick with it and you'll find the connection. Watch it any time, not just at Christmas. It's that good.

Disney's Best Opening Credits

Here are my personal top 4 opening credit sequences of Disney movies. I would've preferred a more standard Top 5, but couldn't think of any other film that really deserves a spot. Keep in mind that many, many movies opt for bare credits instead of interesting opening sequences, unlike this foursome.

CONDORMAN

If the movie was half as entertaining as the opening credits, it would be a must-own. I would even vote for a Disney Afternoon series of this guy.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

The retro vibe used here is spot-on and worth the price of admission.

MONSTERS, INC

Another nostalgic entry, with a jazzy tune that enhances the paper-cutout look of this animation.

ONE HUNDRED AND ONE DALMATIANS

There's so much to love here beyond the fabulous animation. My favorite things are the typewritten letters for story credits, the running dogs for animation credits, and the musical notes for orchestration credits.

Due to the nature of YouTube, these videos could disappear at any time.

Monsters, Inc. Glitches

Here is just a sampling of bloopers from the Disney/Pixar film Monsters, Inc.:

The simulation kid makes a lot of subtle facial movements, but once we see it's a fake, it looks a lot less sophisticated.

Mike says Sulley's been jealous of his good looks since the fourth grade. Yet according to Monsters University, the two don't meet until college.

All the scarers are listed on the scare floor tally board last name first, except Randall Boggs.

George Sanderson has a bandage placed on his back by the C.I.D., after which he is shaved. Then the bandage is removed. The question is: how'd they get it on the skin under his hair?

It seems that Merlin and Mim are having their wizards' Duel a little too close to Snow White's Scary Adventures.

Infamous Disney Memo

You may have heard of a notorious memo once circulated through Disney's Animation Department.

When Disney Management in the eighties noted the box office failure of the film Young Sherlock Holmes, which I happen to like, by the way, they panicked. In an effort to distance themselves from this financial failure, someone conceived the not-so-brilliant idea of changing the name of their own picture Basil of Baker Street to a generic title: The Great Mouse Detective.

Disgusted, the animators and crew of Basil of Baker Street created a memo, supposedly from management, changing the names of all previous animated features. Here is a scan of that memo, preserved for posterity:

It is interesting to note that, in much more recent years, Disney and Pixar seem to have been plagued with the same mentality, giving us ludicrous titles like Tangled, Frozen, Brave, and worst of all, John Carter. Good movies; bad titles.

Once you finish leveling up a character to the 10th level, their tokens are no longer available. So where did this extra Zero token come from?

Same thing happened with Olaf...

...and Sleepy.
