Top 3 Disney Film Scores

Disney certainly has a lot of superb film scores, but there are three that stand out to me. Here's my list of the best of the best, the top 3 Disney music scores of all time.

Please note that this ranking is for the score only, what we used to call the background music. Actual songs from musicals were not considered for this list. And the Big 3 are:

The Incredibles

Joltin' and jazzy, this score by Michael Giacchino is perfect for both the film's mid-century vibe and its super-hero theme. Filled with action, intrigue, and suspense, like the movie itself, one could say it's...incredible.

The Great Mouse Detective

Henry Mancini, of Pink Panther fame, scores again (no pun intended) with this classy, yet sprightly music, so appropriate for my favourite Disney character. I never get tired of it. Note: the link is to a version by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra which is almost exactly what you hear in the film. I linked to it instead of the actual version because I thought it less likely that the video would be removed by YouTube someday.

The Rocketeer

Wow. This one utterly blows me away, especially the main title theme. Probably my favourite movie score of all time. Just absolutely beautiful. Kudos to James Horner. Wow.
